What is Young Carers Unlimited?
Young Carers Unlimited is an information service for Young Carers and Young Adult Carers provided by Suffolk County Council, Children & Young Peoples Services.
This service helps to raise awareness about Young Carers and the issues they may face, and provides information both to professionals such as health and social care workers, teachers and community groups, and to young carers themselves.
Continuing Support for Young Carers
Suffolk’s first strategy for Young Carers and Young Adult Carers was launched in April 2010. The three year strategy was developed by a multi-agency steering group comprising representatives of key statutory and voluntary agencies.
In 2013 the strategy was refreshed in recognition of the continued value and importance of the original research and recommendations. The refreshed strategy (2013 – 2015) provided the ambition for the continued drive for early identification and support for Young Carers and Young Adult Carers in Suffolk.
With the introduction of the Children & Families Act 2014 and the Care Act 2014 Suffolk has released a further strategic vision in support of Young Carers. The document sets out how the Local Authority will meet its statutory obligations to identify the extent to which there are young carers in their area, and subsequently to respond to their needs. The new strategy identifies the pathways of support for all Young Carers, and the focussed support available for Young Carers as they move into adulthood.
