Shine East Norfolk

Overview of our organisation and the services we offer

Shine (East Norfolk) provides a range of person-centred services and activities for children and young people with additional needs or disabilities and their families. We have a deep desire to invest in local children so they can be ready for the future - information, advice, support, childcare and respite services empower local families to fulfil their potential and enjoy the best quality of life possible through making positive choices.

We provide the highest quality expert care and support in a fun, welcoming and award-winning environment. We pride ourselves on our friendly and professional services, ensuring that all families feel welcome.

The organisation was started nearly 30 years ago by a small group of parents looking to share information and support each other through the emotional journey of having a child with additional needs. Over the years we have expanded and adapted our inclusive services for children with additional needs and remain genuinely family-centred. The experiences of the parents who set up the service remain central to the charity’s core.

We are an experienced organisation that caters for children with a variety of needs including those with complex needs, Autism Spectrum Disorder and challenging behaviour.

Where the child’s needs require it, we work on a 1:1 basis, and we use specialist communication systems (PEC’s/WIDGET), sign language and advanced computer technology specifically designed for disabled children to ensure we understand their every need and can respond appropriately.

Our Values
  • All parents and carers have the right to be listened to and to have their views taken into account.
  • Families of children with disabilities/additional needs should have access to appropriate information, resources and services.
  • Children with disabilities/additional needs and their families have the right to be included and fully integrated into everyday life
  • Children with disabilities/additional needs have the right to be happy and safe within our environment and with the activities that are available.
  • All staff have a duty to care, nurture and understand each child’s individual needs.
