Eye Arts Club

Overview of our organisation and the services we offer

Eye Arts Club runs arts projects which specifically cater for the leisure needs of children and young people with additional needs while being open to all from the age of 7 to 18 years, or 25 with a learning disability. It was set up as a charity by a group of parents with disabled children in 1996 following a Suffolk Artlink project. Children and young people with sensory or physical impairments, autism, epilepsy, learning disabilities, ADHD, challenging behaviour (including at risk of exclusion), and LAC/ adopted children are catered for at Eye Arts Club along with those without additional needs. Sessions are supported by a group of volunteers in addition to the project leaders, who are professional artists (visual arts, theatre, dance). Some former project participants come back to become volunteers when older.

The sort of activities we offer

Through Arts Projects, children and young people at Eye Arts Club have the opportunity to work with arts professionals and high quality equipment/software, learning skills in different artforms including dance, scriptwriting, film-making, acting, animation, art, puppetry, and costume. They also learn how to express themselves creatively, work in teams, develop ideas, reflect and improve, and interact confidently. As a role model Eye Arts Club projects have been recognised nationally and won awards. Eye Arts Club offers participants the chance to achieve National Arts Awards if they wish at Discover, Explore, Bronze, Silver and Gold Levels. (Arts Award enables children and young people to gain accreditation for achievement based their own personal ability levels rather than a set standard, and therefore is suitable for all).

Why you should choose us!

Our activities are great for disabled children/young people to enjoy together.  Most of our projects have a mix of performing, making, creative, messy,  technical  ... so there is something for everyone.
