IO Radio Sessions

Age: Suitable for child or young person aged 16 to 25.

Provider: IO Radio

IO Radio is seeking to develop our valuable work to support young people with learning disabilities and autism, aged 16 plus. IO Radio is a fully equipped digital radio station which has been active since August 2013 and has a broad reach via its internet broadcasts and social media links.  Originally formed to support disadvantaged young people to train in media skills and have a voice, recent developments in technology have enabled a diverse range of individuals to participate through touch screen technology and simple interfaces. The aim of this project, an extension to IO Radio, is to provide opportunities to young people with learning disabilities and autism to;

- Improve their communication and social skills

- Improve their confidence

- Gain new practical and independence skills

- Raise awareness and increase visibility of disability

This will be done through the accessible medium of media, working both in a team and independently with mentor support.

This activity has been AU grant funded.
